Furnishing Pieces
Mainly done by commission, my upcycled seat furnishing pieces are made in a similar way to my embroidered watercolours, although for practicality and durability fabric replaces the watercolour part of the process. I begin by firstly layering fabrics onto a canvas backing to form the colour palette. I then cut through the layers to reveal the colours beneath, before stitching them back down to form the picture. The whole piece is then heavily embroidered. Finally I use applique and hand stitched embellishments to add the details.
Because of the layering process the upholstery is highly durable and can be cleaned using standard upholstery cleaning products. Upholstery is done to fire safety standards.
Each piece is not just a unique art piece, but a useable and lasting piece of furniture.
